  Ethernet Switch ที่พบเห็นและใช้งานโดยทั่วไปมากกว่า 95 % มักจะเป็น Switch Layer2 แทบทั้งสิ้น
โดยมี คุณสมบัติต่าง ๆ กัน เริ่มจากระดับ Entry Level ก็มักจะมีคุณสมบัติเฉพาะการ Switch ระหว่าง Port
ต่าง ๆ ของตัวเองเท่านั้น รองรับ MAC Address ได้ไม่มากนัก มักจะเรียก Switch พวกนี้ว่า Desktop
Switch มีราคาถูกลงมาก จะพบว่าถูกนำมา เชื่อมกับ PC โดยตรงแทนที่ HUB เพิ่มขึ้นเรื่อย ๆ ส่วนใน
ระดับสูงขึ้นมา ก็จะมีคุณสมบัติในการทำ VLAN , Manage มี MAC Address มากขึ้นและอื่น ๆ เพิ่มเติม
แน่นอน ราคาก็จะสูงขึ้นด้วย จึงมักถูกนำมาใช้งานกับ Network ที่ต้องการประสิทธิภาพเพิ่มขึ้นหรือเป็น
work group ที่ต้องต่อเชื่อมกับ HUB หลายชุด เพื่อรองรับ PC User จำนวน มาก ๆ
